Case Study 2: Supporting Hannah's Transition to the Workplace

Hannah, a 25-year-old woman with Autism and significant sensory processing needs, was preparing to transition from university to her first job. She sought my assistance in managing her sensory needs and understanding how they might impact her professional life.

I worked with Hannah to break down her daily routine, identifying specific sensitivities and helping her assess her needs from morning to evening. We explored how these sensitivities affected her ability to perform tasks like commuting to work, accessing her workspace, using equipment, interacting with colleagues, and managing her workload.

Using a sensory assessment tool, we discussed reasonable adjustments that could support her in excelling in her new workplace. I also helped her prepare for the Access to Work (ATW) assessment.

Outcome:
Hannah reported that this process helped her to better understand herself and her needs, allowing her to "unmask" and improve her mental health. This newfound self-awareness has positively impacted her workplace experience. She reported having felt more insightful and prepared for her ATW assessment, which would lesd to the correct support in her work placement.
